Multi-level Keyword Clustering

Use keyword clustering to organize your content strategy by grouping related search queries together as they relate to pages, hubs, and categories.

This advanced SERP clustering tool organizes keywords into multi-level groups of clusters. Learn the steps to start clustering now.

Quick-start Guide

Bid farewell to manual keyword categorization and time-consuming analysis.

This new keyword clustering tool employs a state-of-the-art SERP clustering algorithm and some proprietary NLP to automatically group keywords into a multi-level hierarchy of topic clusters.

  • Cluster Level 1 => Pages
  • Cluster Level 2 => Hubs or Groups of Pages
  • Cluster Level 3 => Parent Topic or Category of Pages

Follow these steps to group a list of keywords based on their semantic relevance and shared context.

STEP 1) Upload a CSV containing your keyword list

The keyword clustering script can handle thousands of keywords so to start you'll need to prepare a CSV file.

When you are ready upload your file here.

Sources for keywords

  • You can create your own keyword list in google sheets. Just make sure the file you upload has a 'Keyword' column.
  • Export a list of target keywords or competitor's keywords from your favorite KW research tool like SEMRush or AHREFs.
  • Export a list of queries from Google Search Console.
  • Google Search Suggestions or Ads

The upload supports multiple files and 1000's of keywords per file. If you have a few keywords and don't need to include additional information like keyword volume then consider copy-and-pasting keywords into the bulk serp similarity tool. The settings and the output are the same.

STEP 2) Confirm the clustering settings

At a minimum you should confirm the target country and language.

The primary algorithm in this tool is SERP Clustering which automatically performs a Google search query for each keyword in the selected region and language.

STEP 3) View the Results

After you launch the clustering job it will be processed in a queue by the next available worker. During peak usage it can take as long as 10 minutes per 1000 keywords.

Extremely large jobs can take a little longer to run.

I'm constantly monitoring the jobs but please contact support (aka me) if it seems to be taking too long.

Once the job finishes you can preview the results on your report details page.

Most people choose to download the results and explore it in a pivot table.

STEP 4) Use the results to enhance your content strategy

The results include a multi-level hierarchy of keyword clusters which means that you can now better plan your content strategy.

  • Use Cluster Level 1 and the associated keywords to create or edit distinct PAGES
  • Use Cluster Level 2 for planning internal linking and building HUBS or topic clusters with multiple pages
  • Use Cluster Level 3 for organizing parent topics and CATEGORIES

Finally remember to use your intuition to further combine, refine, and personalize the initial results.

How does keyword clustering work?

The process involves extracting data from Google SERPs, considering factors such as co-occurrence patterns, shared search intent, and thematic context.

By examining the organic search landscape, SERP clustering identifies common themes and topics, allowing for the organization of keywords into meaningful clusters.

Content planning using Hub and Spoke strategy

Content planning with involves grouping keyword into topics at three levels: Spoke, Hub, and Category.

  1. Spoke Clusters: These are smaller groups of related words that focus on specific aspects of a larger topic.
  2. Hub Clusters: Hub clusters are bigger groups that encompass several Spoke clusters. They cover the main topic comprehensively and include various related aspects.
  3. Category Clusters: At the highest level, Category clusters group many Hub clusters. They discuss broad topics that span across multiple areas of interest.

Using these three levels of clusters helps us organize our content efficiently, ensuring that our articles cover different details and big topics, making them valuable and informative for readers interested in various aspects.

For the example diagram above, let's consider a hypothetical website that offers a SaaS solution for project management. Here are three potential Hub-Spoke content examples:

Hub 1: Project Management Basics

  1. Spoke 1: "10 Essential Project Management Skills Every Manager Should Master"
  2. Spoke 2: "The 5 Phases of Project Management: A Comprehensive Guide"
  3. Spoke 3: "How to Create a Project Charter: A Step-by-Step Approach"

Hub 2: Agile Project Management

  1. Spoke 1: "Introduction to Agile Methodology: Principles and Practices"
  2. Spoke 2: "Scrum vs. Kanban: Choosing the Right Agile Framework for Your Team"
  3. Spoke 3: "Sprint Planning: Key Tips for Successful Agile Project Execution"

Hub 3: Project Management Tools and Software

  1. Spoke 1: "Top 5 Project Management Software for Small Businesses"
  2. Spoke 2: "Comparing Gantt Charts vs. Kanban Boards: Which is Best for You?"
  3. Spoke 3: "How to Utilize Project Management Templates for Improved Efficiency"

In this example, each Hub represents a central topic related to project management, while the Spokes delve into specific aspects or subtopics within each Hub. This Hub-Spoke content method ensures comprehensive coverage of various project management areas, providing valuable information for the target audience and establishing the website's authority in the domain.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
